faq

therapy can be helpful anytime you’re feeling stuck or unsure of how to manage life’s challenges. you might be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, or transitions, or simply want support in understanding yourself better. even if you’re not in crisis, therapy can provide a safe space to process and grow.

typically, we’ll have a free 15-minute consult call to see if we’re a good fit. during the call, we can discuss your goals, availability, budget, and any questions you have.

if we decide to move forward, i’ll add you to our client portal, send intake forms and assessments, and ask that you complete them before your first session.

the first session will focus on getting to know you and your history. after that, i’ll create a treatment plan, which we’ll review and adjust in our second session. we’ll revisit your plan as needed throughout therapy. once your goals are met, we can create new goals, adjust session frequency, or pause therapy until you need it again.

finding the right fit matters. during our first call and session, notice how comfortable you feel sharing your thoughts and whether my personality and style feels like a good match for what you need. therapy works best when you feel heard and able to engage in the process.

if it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay! just let me know and i can help connect you with other therapists who might be a better match for you.

you can talk about anything that feels important to you – emotions, relationships, life changes, challenges, or goals. there’s no ‘right’ topic. if you’re unsure, we can start with what feels most pressing or overwhelming, and therapy will help you explore deeper patterns over time.

i highly recommend weekly sessions to support consistent progress. if you’re going through a particularly stressful time or doing exposure and response prevention therapy (erp) for ocd, two sessions per week may be helpful. as you feel more stable, we can reduce sessions to biweekly sessions.

the length of therapy will depend on your needs, progress, and goals.

that’s totally okay! you’re in control of what you share in therapy. we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you, and you don’t have to discuss anything until you’re ready.

therapy can help you process emotions, understand patterns, and develop strategies for coping with life’s challenges. it provides a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, build resilience, and work toward meaningful changes in your life.

common goals people work on in therapy include: improving relationships, managing anxiety or depression, processing trauma, building self-esteem, setting boundaries, navigating life transitions, and developing healthier coping strategies.

unlike talking to a friend, therapy offers a structured and supportive environment with a trained professional who can help you identify patterns, provide evidence-based tools, and guide you in exploring difficult emotions safely. a therapist can help you understand the ‘why’ behind your experiences and supports you in making sustainable changes, rather than just offering advice or a listening ear.
